ThefunctionsofappreciatingEnglishmoviesintheprocessofteachingEnglishincollege
Introduction
MoreandmoreeffortshavebeenmadetoenhancelanguageabilitiesofcollegestudentsthaneverbeforesinceChinajoinedtheWTO.Languageisthemeansforexchangingideasbetweenpeople.ToimprovespokenEnglishofcollegestudentsandfindthenewmethodstoteachareurgenttasksrightnow.Itisimportantthatteachersfullyequipstudentswiththeskillsneededtocommunicateeffectivelyinthetargetlanguagesothattheycanshareandexchangetheirideas,feelings,opinions(CorrealAlexandraMonsalveSara,2012,7
(1)).SoitisnecessaryforeverycollegeEnglishteachertofindoutanappropriatewaytodeliverskilltostudents.
AndEnglishmoviesastextcaptions,voice,imageandotherinformationtransmissionmediumintheintegrationoffeatures,becomeveryimportantinEnglishteachingresourcesiswidelyused(LiuJia,2011).AsEllis,rodmentionedinUnderstandingSecondLanguageAcquisition(Ellis,2007),Whetherwegrowupwithone,two,orseverallanguagesduringourearlyyearsoflife,manyofuswilllearnasecond,foreign,orheritagelanguageinlateryears.ThefieldofSecondlanguageacquisition(SLA,forshort)investigatesthehumancapacitytolearnadditionallanguagesinlatechildhood,adolescence,oradulthood,afterthefirstlanguage--inthecaseofmonolinguals--orlanguages--inthecaseofbilinguals--havealreadybeenacquired.UnderstandingSecondLanguageAcquisitionoffersawide-encompassingsurveyofthisburgeoningfield,itsaccumulatedfindingsandproposedtheories,itsdevelopedresearchparadigms,anditspendingquestionsforthefuture.
Audio-visualmethod,themainisitsoneofthemostobviousfeatureistheuseofteachingfilmsandrecordsshowlanguageproject,providemeaningfuldiscourseandcontexttothestudents.CollegeEnglishteachersshouldactivelyusethemediaintheteachingtopromotethecollegeEnglishteaching,stimulatestudents'learningenthusiasm,deepentheirunderstandingofwesternculture,soastoimprovetheirabilityoflanguagecommunication.

Themovieisadisseminatorofculture.Andtherearedifferencesincustoms,habits,environments,traditionsandpeople’scharacter.Suchdifferencesarereflectedinthelanguage.Somedifferenceshavebeenunderstoodoracceptedwiththedepthandmutualcommunicationsamongnations.Englishmoviesshowvariousculture,customs,socialproblemsandhistoryinthedevelopmentoftheplot.Inthisway,studentscanunderstandthelocalcustomsandimprovetheirculturalliteracy(ZhangZhaoyuan,2012:

Watchingmovies,enjoytheplot,andfindoutthelanguagedialogue.Payattentiontolisteningtoandwatchingfilms,forthefirsttimecooperatewithpictures,canvisuallyseetalkingandgesturesandactivitiessuchasrole,helptounderstandlanguage.Putdownisnoteasytounderstandlanguageanddialogueisdifficult,inordertotesttoverifyonebyone.
