The20volunteerswereshownimagesoflandscapes,houses,andotherlocations,aswellaspersonallymeaningfulobjects.Measuringtheirbrainactivity,theresearchersfoundthatitwastheplaces,asopposedtotheobjects,thatcausedthebraintogetthemostexcited.
Volunteerswerealsointerviewedatgreatlengthtwotimes,onceathomeandtheothertimeattheirspecialplace.Theresearchmadediscoveriesthathadneverknownbefore—thefavoriteplacesa
rousedfeelingsofbelonging,physicalandemotionalsafety,andanintenseinternalpulltotheplace.
Dr.AndyMyersweighedinonthefindings,saying,“Forthefirsttimewehavebeenabletoprovethephysicalandemotionalbenefitsofplace,farbeyondanyresearchthathasbeendonebefore.”
