Description
TheLM2596-XXE5/F5seriesofregulatorsaremonolithicICsthatprovideallactivefunctionsforastep-down(buckswitchingregulator,capableofdriving3Aloadwithexcellentlineandloadregulation.Thesedevicesareavailableinfixedoutputvoltageof3.3V,5V,12Vandanadjustableoutputversion.Requiringaminimumnumberofexternalcomponents,theseregulatorsaresimpletouseandincludeinternalfrequencycompensationandafixed-frequencyoscillator.
TheLM2596-XXE5/F5seriesoperatesataswitchingfrequencyof150kHz,thusallowingsmallersizedfiltercomponentsthanwhatwouldbeneededwithlowerfrequencyswitchingregulators.Availableinstandard5-leadTO-220andTO-263packageswithseveraldifferentleadbendoptions.AstandardseriesofinductorsareavailablefromseveraldifferentmanufacturersoptimizedforusewiththeLM2596-XXE5/F5series.Thisfeaturegreatlysimplifiesthedesignofswitch-modepowersupplies.Otherfeaturesincludeaguaranteed±4%toleranceonoutputvoltageunderspecifiedinputvoltageandoutputloadconditions,and±15%ontheoscillatorfrequency.Externalshutdownisincluded,featuring80μAstandbycurrent.Selfprotectionfeaturesincludeatwostagefrequencyreducingcurrentlimitfortheoutputswitchandanovertemperatureshutdownforcompleteprotectionunderfaultconditions.
