Aclassicpsychologyexperimentcalled“trolley(电车)experiment”suggeststhatourmindshavetwomoralsystems,andtheydon’talwaysagree.Inthetrolleyexperiment,participantsaretoldthatanout-of-controltrolleycouldkillfivepeopleonthetracks.Theymustdecidewhethertoturnitontoasecondtrackwithonlyonepersononit.Almosteveryonedoesit,sacrificingonetosavefive.Butifinsteadyouhavetopushonepersonoffabridgeontothetracktostopthetrolley,mostpeoplesayno.Thatsuggestsmostofushaveastrictruleagainstkillingpeopledirectly,evenforthegreatergood.
