BeingdistinguishedfrommanygreatAmericanwriters,Hemingwayisfamousforhisuniquewritingstyle.Hechangesthetraditionalliteraryworksfromtediousstyleintoakindofconcise“telegraphstyle”.Asamatteroffact,hisshortstory---HillslikeWhiteElephantsfullyreflectshisuniqueandclassicwritingstyle.Thestoryseemssimple,butactuallyartful.Hemingwaycapturestheessenceoftheplaindialogueofusuallife,soareadermaybeunderanillusionthathewaspresentatthesiteofthestory.Andheaddssentimentintoconciselanguage.InHillslikeWhiteElephants,theperfectsymbolismabout“whiteelephant”andthecharacteristicendingconstructedbyHemingwayfurthergivesprominencetohisabilityinlanguage.Especially,hisfamousIcebergTheoryisemployedperfectlyinthisstory.HemingwaycreatesauniquewritingstylethatbringsagreatinfluencetoAmericanletters,eventoEuropeandallovertheworld.

Asweallknow,HillsLikeWhiteElephantswaswrittenin1927andwasanimportantpieceinHemingway’ssecondcollectionofshortstories---MenWithoutWomen.Itisasimplebutartfulstoryandthecontentofitjustcanbecondensedto
