Inoneofthestudies,manyparentsreportedtheytoldtheiryoungchildrenthatbadthingswouldhappeniftheydidn'tgotobedoreatwhattheyweresupposedto.Otherparentsreportedinventingmagicalcreatures.Oneexplained,“Wetoldourdaughterthatifshewrappedupallherpacifiers(橡皮奶嘴)likegifts,thefairwouldcomeandgivethemtothechildrenwhoneededthem.”
Intheotherstudy,theresearcherssurveyedcollegestudents'recollectionsabouttheirparents'lyingandobtainedsimilarresults:
