keepacommunicationsdiaryforaweek.Inittheynotedthenumberof
conversationsoremailexchangestheyhadlastingmorethan10minutes,and
confessedtohowmanyliestheytold.Hancockthenworkedoutthenumberof
liesperconversationforeachmedium.Hefoundthatliesmadeup14percent
ofemails,21percentofinstantmessages,27percentofface-to-face
interactionsandanastonishing37percentofphonecalls.
Hisresults,tobe
presentedattheconferenceonhumancomputerinteractioninVienna,Austria,
inApril,havesurprisedpsychologists.Someexpectede-mailerstobethe
biggestliars,reasoningthatbecausedeceptionmakespeopleuncomfortable,the
detachment(非直接接触)ofe-mailingwould
makeiteasiertolie.Othersexpectedpeopletoliemoreinface-to-face
