Abstract:
Americanhumor,whichexertsgreatinfluenceonAmericanculture,issignificantinrepresentingabetterunderstandingofAmericanculture.CombiningAmericanculturewithAmericansitcomcanbenefitpeopleinunderstandingandexperiencingAmericanhumorbetter,forAmericansitcomalwaysrepresentalivingpictureofthethinkingpatternsAmericanpeopletake,dailylifeAmericanpeopleliveandsomethingpopularincurrentAmerica.Thelaughingstocks,whichconcernedwiththeseaspects,whichcanberegardedasthesharedknowledgeforpeopletounderstandAmericanhumorbetter,areamongandthroughthesitcom.So,inordertounderstandandexperienceAmericanhumorwell,itisaneffectivewayforpeopletoachievethisgoal,whichistostudyAmericanhumorthroughAmericansitcom.ThispaperaimstoundertakeastudyofAmericanhumorthroughAmericansitcom-TheBigBangTheory.Atthebeginningofthispaper,therewillbesomeinformationaboutAmericanhumor,Americansitcom,andtherelationshipbetweenthem,thenthepaperwilldiscusshowsitcomexertsinfluenceonAmericanhumorwiththeexamplesinTheBigBangTheory.Thediscussionwillbeconductedfromthreeperspectiveswhicharethedailylife,historicalbackgroundandtechnologyinAmericaasmajorcomponentsofAmericansitcom.Intheend,thispaperwillattempttoprovidesomesuggestionsonhowtoapplysitcomproperlyandrespectivelytopre-understandingAmericanhumor.

1.Introduction
1.1ABriefIntroduction
Humoristhecarrier,whilecultureisthecore.Asapartofculture,humor,whichisrelatedtoculture,makesthepithofculturewithhighcohesivenessandrepresentsmanyaspects,suchassocialvalue,aesthetictasteandideologyandsoonincisivelyandvividly.ThedemarcationandtheoriginofhumorconsistinAmericanculture.Americancultureisnotonlythemainincubatorofhumor,butalsothestageforhumortohavefulldevelopment.HumorandAmericanculturemakeiteachotherpossibleandhelpeachotherforward.Ifyouwanttounderstandhumorbetter,youshouldunderstandAmericanculturewell,forhumorisrootedinAmericanculture,atthesametime,humoriseverywherethroughAmerica.WhenyoucommunicatewithAmericanpeople,youshouldhaveaknowledgeoftheirhumorousthinkingpattern.WhileifyouwanttohaveabetterunderstandingaboutthewayofthinkingAmericanpeoplehold,youshouldcomprehendAmericanhumor.HumorhaspermeatedineverypartsofAmericanpeopleintheirdailylife,youcannotimagewhatAmericawilllooklikeifthereisnohumor.However,therealwaysexistaproblemthatpeopleinchinacannotunderstandandexperienceAmericanhumorwell.Becausewecomefromdifferentcountries,havedifferentknowledge,differentthinkingpatterns,differentviews,sometimes,wecanhardlyfindthelaughingstocksintheirconversation.Whilefortunately,whenAmericansitcomcomesintoourlife,thereappearawayforustohaveabetterunderstandingaboutAmericanculture,especiallyAmericanhumor,foreachAmericansitcomisamirrorofAmericancultureaswellasamirrorofAmericanhumor.ThroughwatchingAmericansitcom,audiencecanhaveadirectfeelingofthesocialreality,values,timetideandculturaltrendsinAmerica,especiallythesenseofhumorinit.Therefore,Americansitcomisclosetolife,whichpaysattentiontothehumannature.AmericansitcomrepresentsalivingpictureofAmericanpeople,thelaughingstocksinsitcomsalwayshavesomethingtodowithChinesetoo,orwecansaythatChinesepeoplesometimesareacquaintedwiththeknowledgeinvolvedinthelaughingstocks,sothenwecanexperiencethehumorassameasthem.ItisaveryeffectivewaytounderstandAmericanhumorthroughsitcoms.Andfinally,takethepopularityofAmericansitcominChinaintoconsideration,astudyonAmericanhumorwillbeganwiththemostpopularsitcomrecently----TheBigBangTheoryasthedemonstratedepitome.
ThemajorpurposeofthisthesisistohelpEnglishlovers,especiallytheaspectofAmericanhumor,haveabetterunderstandingabouttherelationshipbetweenAmericanhumorandAmericansitcom,sothatthebetterwemakeuseofsitcom,thebetterweunderstandandexperienceAmericanhumor.Inthisthesis,itopenswiththebackgroundinformationofAmericanhumor,suchasthedefinitionofAmericanhumor,theoriginandthecharacteristicsofAmericanhumor,thencomestothetopicsandsignificanceofAmericanhumorinthefirstpart.Inthesecondpart,thepaperwilltalkaboutthesitcom,suchasabriefintroductionandsignificanceofsitcom,thenabriefinformationaboutTheBigBangTheory,atlast,therelationshipbetweenthesitcomTheBigBangTheoryandAmericanhumor.Inthethirdpart,thepaperwillgivesomeexamples,whichbelongtosharedknowledgebetweenChinesepeopleandAmericanpeople,andrelatedtoAmericanhumor.Finally,therecomestheconclusion.

SomescholarshasstudiedAmericanhumor.ChenXiaoyun(2012)haspublishedapapernamedOntheMethodofExpressionofAmericanHumor,whichgivespeopleanintroductionofAmericanhumor’stypesanddefinitionandalsosomeexamplesabouttechniquesofexpressionexistedinAmericanhumor.GuoHuixiang(2012)haspublishedapaper,whichmakesaanalysis,whichbasedonthecooperativeprincipleandthetheoryofconversationalimplicature,onAmericanhumor.ConstanceRourkealsohaspublishedabooknamedAmericanHumor:
AStudyoftheNationalCharacter.Inthisbook,ConstanceRourke(2004)talksaboutthetopicsofAmericanhumor,andpointsoutthat“Yankee”isthefirstAmericancomicfigurethatisacceptedwidely,whichcontainsAmericanhumor.ShesinglesoutthearchetypalfiguresoftheYankeepeddler,thebackwoodsman,andtheblackfaceminstreltoilluminatethefundamentalroleofpopularcultureinfashioningadistinctiveAmericansensibility.ProfessorArthurPowerDudden(1987)haspublishedabooknamedAmericanHumor,whichtakesacloselookatAmericanhumorfromrevolutionarytimestothepresentfiftyyears.ThebookgivesusalivelynewangletothestudyofAmericanculture.LawrenceE.Mintz(1988)haspublishedabooknamedHumorinAmerica,whichgivesusalargeinformationaboutthegenresandtopicsofAmericanhumorasaresearchguide.
2.TheBackgroundInformationaboutAmericanHumor
Asweallknown,Americadeclareditsindependencein1774.Ononehand,Americainterruptedtherelationshipwithmetropolitanstate-theUnitedKingdompolitically,butontheotherhand,AmericastillcouldnotbeseparatedfromtheUnitedKingdominculture.TaketheaspectofAmericanhumorincultureforexample,thebeginningofAmericanhumorwasfromtheimitationofEnglishliterature.TheappearanceofAmericanhumorwasbasedontheinfluenceofthehumorinEnglishliteraturefirstly.ThehumoranddemeanorofWashingtonIrving,whowastheearliestancestorofAmericanliterature,wereinheritedfromtheromanticismintheUnitedKingdom.InthecollectionofTheSketchBookofGeoffreyCrayon,Gent.(throughout1819and1820),WashingtonIrvingtoldAmericanstorieswithEnglishhumor,thenindeed,madeAmericanpeoplefeelkindandrefreshing.AnotherAmericanauthor,MarkTwain,atypicalYankee,putalotofAmericanlocaldialectinhisworks,thenfinallygraduallyformedhisownstyle-anuniquesenseofhumorwiththematurityofwritingskills.ThehumorofMarkTwainbrokeintoAmericanpeople’sdailylifeandbecameakindofcollectiveculturalconsciousnessgradually.
2.1TheDefinitionofAmericanHumor
