LeadershipintheMarineCorpsismorecomplicatedthanthesimplemanagementofemployees.Ilearnedthislessonthehardway,beingthrustintoamanagementpositionasmyunitwasbeingshippedoverseasduringthePersianGulfWar.AsanewlypromotedCorporal,Iwasgiventhejobofnightcrewsupervisorinchargeof15othermarines.IntheMarineCorps,leadersarenotonlyheldaccountablefortheworkgettingdonebutalsofortheperformanceandconductoftheirmarines.Attheageof21,Ihadtheresponsibilitynotonlytocarryoutmyordersbutalsotosafeguardthepersonallivesandprotectthegeneralwelfareofmymen.Thisbeingmysecondtimeoverseas,Iunderstoodmanyofthedifficultiesthatayoungmarinecanhaveontheirfirstextendedtripawayfromtheirfamily.Ienjoyedhelpingmymarinesovercometheirproblems,andlearnedthatthebenefitswerewellworththetimethatIinvested.Idiscoveredthatemployeeswhohavethesupportoftheirmanagementtendtobemorefocusedonthetasksathand,gaininglevelsoftrustandloyaltythatcanonlybenefittheorganization.
RelatedtothisissueofgainingtrustandloyaltythroughmanagementsupportivenessisthattheMarineCorpsrequirescreativemeanstomotivatesubordinates.Itcanbeverydifficultattimestobeinchargeofindividuals,yethavenodirectcontrolovertheirsalariesoradvancementintheorganization.Thegovernmentdecidesmilitarysalaries,andpromotionsarecontrolledbyboardswiththeprimarymeansofmeasurementbeingtimeinservice.Forthisreason,Ilearnedtomanagethroughmutualrespect.Ibelieveitismuchmoreimportanttogainthetrustandconfidenceofyouremployeesthantousedirectcompensationtomotivatethem.
ThroughoutmyMarineCorpscareerandbeyondIdevelopedmanystrongleadershipskills,butmostofallIlearnedthattobeeffectiveasamanageronemustremainfocusedonthehumanaspectofleadership.Byconcentratingtoomuchonthegoalandnotonthepeopleneededtomeetit,leadersriskalienatingtheiremployeesandthusfailureinachievingthegoalitself.ByleveragingthelessonsandqualitiesIgainedwhileservingasanofficerintheMarineCorps,IhopetomeaningfullycontributetotheacademicenvironmentattheAndersonSchoolofBusiness.

作为一名新提拔的下士,我的工作就是带领一个15名成员的夜间行动部队。
在海军里,领导者不仅仅要负责任务的完成,还要负责士兵的表现。
在我21岁的时候,我肩负的责任不仅仅是执行任务,还有就是要确保下属的生命安全和福利。
这已经是我第二次出海了,我明白一个年轻士兵首次离开家乡出海会遇到的许多困难。
我很乐意去帮助下属克服困难而且我也明白我的付出是有价值的。
我发现那些支持管理者的员工会更加关注手头的工作,对于公司的信任和忠诚也会得到加强。
与通过支持管理者而产生的信任及忠诚相关的就是海军要求创新方法去激励下属。
在一个公司管理员工是非常困难的,因为薪水和提拔都没有统一直接的控制。
而政府决定了部队的薪水,提拔也是由委员会根据服务时间的长短来决定的。
因为这个原因,我通过相互尊重来管理。
我相信去获取年轻员工的信任和信心远比通过奖金来激励他们更为重要。
在我海军生涯之中我培养了许多领导技巧,但是最为重要的是我学会了要做一名高效率的经理必须注重领导当中的人性化。
假如领导者过于注重目标而忽视实现目标需要的员工,他们将会与员工渐行渐远并最终达不到目标。
我希望在海军中作为一名军官学到的领导技巧和平衡能力可以为安德森商学院的课堂作出应有的贡献。

说实话我是很喜欢的。
我们看一下这篇文章的结构:
第一部分,开头。
在这部分开门见山的点中了题目,兽医的经历。
第二部分,延伸引入。
光看了开头让人很迷惑,怎么兽医的来申请医学了呢。
所以这里解释引入一下,告诉别人,我之前的经历和和现在的申请有关系的。
第三部分,主体。
这里主要是在讲自己的医学上的经历,跟老师做实验也好,还是之前的社会活动,结合这些事情来说自己在医学上的认识,非常的真实也令人信服。
而且作者的逻辑性很强,由潜到深的叙述,一切都显得那么自然。
虽然很多东西都是专业的东西,但是结合他所说的东西并不显得枯燥。
第四部分,升华。
通过对主体部分的总结,写出了自己对专业的一些看法,领导能力对于外科医生非常重要。
并且详细的写出了自己的观点。
第五部分,结尾
在升华的基础上,点名了自己的目的,说出了自己的目标。
点评:
可以说这篇文章的格式是相当的标准的,一共是6段,分为很标准的5个部分。
结构清晰,让人可以很清晰的知道作者要表达的思想和内容。
不像很多作者在做文章的时候太散太乱。
这篇文章中我最喜欢的就是这点。
而且这篇文章的中心很明确,并且用兽医的经历把整个文章串了起来。
可以说兽医的经历就好像是一根绳子,牢牢的把各个部分有机的连接起来,让人看到文章的时候第一个感觉就是整体感好。
可以说,很多时候学生在做个人陈述的时候,都喜欢简历试的罗列,一个个人陈述洋洋洒洒的XX段,看得我头都大了。
并且都是一种纯的罗列试描述,我做了什么,通过多少时间得到了什么结果,纯的描述。
没有任何的逻辑思维,给人的一个感觉,就是乱。
除了达到了简历的效果之外什么都得不到。
乱糟糟的,我看了都头疼,你想想那些天天看材料看到要吐的评审委员会成员们会怎么看你的这个东西呢?
我想这个就不用我来说了吧。
良好的文章结构代表了良好的逻辑思维能力。
这个是毋庸置疑的,并且从我得到的一些信息来看,我至少是相信一点,就是评审委员会的人在看你文章的时
