III.Exposition
Expositionisperhapsthetypeofwritingthatismostfrequentlyusedbyastudent,ascientist,oraprofessional.Expositionmeansexpoundingorexplaining.Anexpositorypaperexplainsorexploressomething,suchastheprocessofmakingamachine,thecausesofanaturalorsocialphenomenon,theplanningofaproject,orthesolutionofaproblem.
Youhaveseenthatdescriptionmainlydealswithappearancesandfeelings,andnarrationwitheventsandexperiences.Unlikethesetwotypesofwriting,expositionmainlydealswithprocessesandrelationships.Youarewritingadescriptiveessaywhenyoudescribetheappearanceofanobject,butyouarewritinganexpositoryessaywhenyouexplainhowitismade,howitisused,andhowitmaychange.Whenyounarrateahistoricalevent,wetellwhathappened,whenandwhereithappened,andwhotookpartinit.Inanexpositorypaper,youdiscussitscauseandeffect,itsnature,anditssignificanceinhistory.

1.Illustration
Illustrationessayisanessaywithnumerousbrightexampleswhichillustratethethesisstatement.Itisthemostcommon,andoftenthemostefficientpatternofexposition.Indeed,itishardtowriteagoodpaperofanykindwithoutusingatleastsomeexamples.Goodexampleshelptoclarifyawriter'sthoughtbymakingthegeneralspecific,andtheabstractconcrete.Theyalsoaddinterestandhelptopersuadeorconvincethereader.
