Pronunciation
∙Overall,clearandunderstandablepronunciationisthemainthing.
∙Secondly,thecorrectuseofthefollowingfeatureswilldeterminethepronunciationgrade:
1.basicwordpronunciation;
2.linkedspeechsounds;
3.correctandappropriatesentencestress(i.e.,whichwordorwordsinasentencearestressedmorethanothers);and,
4.appropriateuseofintonation(risingandfalling)toemphasizemeaning.
∙Slightlyinaccurate(=unclear)pronunciationisusuallyunderstandableifthecorrectwordsandgrammarareusedbutslightlyinaccuratepronunciationcombinedwithothererrorscanresultinlanguagethatisnotunderstandableatall.
∙Americanpronunciationisacceptable.
Grammar
∙Basicgrammar,especiallytheverbtenses.Knowhowtomakethetensesandusethemcorrectly.
∙Complexsentences:
Don'tjustusesimplesentencesallthetime.Instead,oftenusesentencescomposedofpartsthatarejoinedtogetherwithconjunctionsandotherlinkingwords.(Thisisa"must"foraBand6oraboveinthissub-score.)
