ContrastthedifferenceoffamilyeducationvaluesbetweenAmericanindividualismandChinesecollectivismfromtheinterculturalperspective.
1.2Researchbackground(LiteratureReview)
AfterBattleHymnoftheTigerMotherpublished,AmyChua’seducationwaysarousedtremendousresponse.Readershaddifferentviews.Someoneadmiredher,whilesomeonethoughtshehadsuspicionofabusingchildren.Medialaunchedadebateoneducationmethod.AmyChuaeducateschildreninChinesetraditionalways.ShethoughtChinesewaywassuperiortoAmerican.However,afterfailureonherseconddaughter,sheadmittedChinesewayalsohadshortcomings,andfamilyeducationshouldgetthebalanceofChineseandAmericanway.ChineseandAmericanfamilyeducationvaluesexisthugedifference.Chinesemethodpaysattentiontocollectivism,whileAmericanpaysattentiontoindividualism.Chineseparentsthinkonlystudycanmaketheirchildrensuccessful,sotheyaskchildrentospendmostoftimestudying.Theyalsoaskchildrentodothosethingswhichtheythinkarebeneficialandtolearnunquestionedobedience.Onthecontrary,Americanparentspreferhappyeducation.Theythinkifchildrenarehappyanddoingwhattheylike,itissuccess.Theybecomefriendsoftheirchildrenandguidetheminsteadofforcingthemtodosomething.
1.3Significanceofthisresearch
ThisresearchisaimedatanalyzingthedifferenceoffamilyeducationvaluesbetweenAmericanindividualismandChinesecollectivismandshowingadvantageanddisadvantageofbothkindsofeducationmethodsandgivingsomeadvicetoparents.
