1Hewasoneofthegreatestscientiststheworldhaseverknown,yetifIhadtoconveytheessenceofAlbertEinsteininasingleword,Iwouldchoosesimplicity.Perhapsananecdotewillhelp.Once,caughtinadownpour,hetookoffhishatandhelditunderhiscoat.Askedwhy,heexplained,withadmirablelogic,thattherainwoulddamagethehat,buthishairwouldbenonetheworseforitswetting.Thisknackforgoinginstinctivelytotheheartofamatterwasthesecretofhismajorscientificdiscoveries—thisandhisextraordinaryfeelingforbeauty.
