WilliamTyndale(1484-1536)wasa16thcenturypriestandscholarwhotranslatedtheBibleintoanearlyformofModernEnglish.AlthoughnumerouspartialandcompleteEnglishtranslationshadbeenmadefromthe7thcenturyonward,Tyndale’swasthefirsttotakeadvantageofthenewmediumofprint,whichallowedforitswidedistribution.BesidetranslatingtheBible,healsoheldandpublishedviewswhichwereconsideredheretical,firstbytheCatholicChurch,andlaterbytheChurchofEnglandwhichwasestablishedbyHenryVIII.BecausehisBibletranslationalsoincludenotesandcommentarypromotingtheseviews.Histranslationwasbannedbytheauthorities,andhehimselfwasburnedatthestakein1536,attheinstigationofagentsofHenryVIIIandtheAnglicanChurch.

1930)isanAmericanpilot,astronaut,andthefirstpersontowalkonthemoon.HewasborninWapakoneta,OhioandservedintheKoreanWarasajetfighterpilotfortheUS.Navy.HeattendedPurdueUniversity,wherehewasamemberofafraternity,PhiDeltaTheta,andreceivedaBachelorofSciencedegreein1955.ThehebecameaciviliantestpilotforNASAandpilotedthe4000mi/hX-15rocketplane.From1960to1962hewasapilotinvolvedinthecancelledU.SDuringtheactualmission,hetookmanualcontroloftheLunarModuleEagleandpiloteditawayfromarockyareatoasafelanding.SeveralhourslaterheclimbedoutoftheLMandbecamethefirstpersontoflublineonthemoon,withthewords“That’sonesmallstepforaman,onegiantleapformankind.”
