-tomeettheprofessionalneedsofthetargetpopulationthroughdevelopinganunderstandingofthetheoryandpracticeofTESOLinrelationtoclassroompracticeand/orinrelationtoteachereducationandsupervision;
-toenablestudentstoexaminetheirownconstructofTESOLandteachereducationforTESOLwithinaframeworkconstructedfromtheconsiderationofalternativeinterpretationsoftheoryandtherelationoftheorytopractice;
-toequipstudentstomodifytheirpracticeofTESOLandteachereducationforTESOLinthelightofdevelopingtheoryandthechangingconditionsinwhichtheyhavetooperate;
-toincreaseandupdatetheprofessionalknowledgeofstudentstoenablethemtodeveloptheircriticalappraisalofEnglishlanguageteachingpractice;
-togivestudentstheopportunitytoreflectonthisprofessionalknowledgewithregardtotheappropriatenessofitsapplicationtoarangeofeducationalcontexts;
-toprovideaforumforsharingtherichexperientialknowledgewhichthestudentsbringtothecourse,andthroughthistoseekappropriatesolutionstorelevantprofessionaleducationalproblems.

3AWARDS
3.1ThePost-graduateCertificateinTESOL
Thiswillbeawardedtostudentswhosuccessfullycomplete60creditsofcompulsorycourses,andwhodonotcompleteothercourses.
3.2ThePost-graduateDiplomainTESOL
Thiswillbeawardedtostudentswhosuccessfullycompleteallthecompulsorycoursesandtwooptioncourses,andwhodonotproceedtotheMSc.
3.3TheMScTESOL
Thiswillbeawardedtothosewhosuccessfullycompleteallthecompulsorycoursesandtwooptioncourses,andwhosuccessfullycompleteadissertation.
4PROGRAMMEOUTLINE
4.1ThreeSemesterStructure
Studentstakeeightcourses(sixcompulsoryandtwooptions)andwriteadissertation(totalof180credits).Eachcourserequires200hourstocomplete;thistimeincludesclasstime,tutorials,workshops,studytimeandassessment.Wheregrouporindividualpreparationforaclassorworkshopisindicatedbythecourseleader,thiswillbearequirement.

Inadditionaltoyouroptions,youcantakeanadditionalcourse,theTEFLQ(DELTAEquivalent).Thiscoursedoesnotcontributecreditstowardsyourdegreeprogramme,anditincursfeesseparatelyfromtheprogramme.
5LEARNINGANDSUPPORTGROUPS
5.1Learninggroups
∙WholeGroupMeetings
Eachcoursetendstohavealecture-typeinputforthewholestudentgrouponceaweek.Attendanceisexpected:
border/visacontrolsrequirearecordofattendance.Studentswhoareunabletoattendonedayshouldnotifythecourseleader.Incaseofmorethantwodays’absencefromtheprogrammestudentsshouldnotifytheProgrammeDirector.
∙Workshops
Coursesgenerallyhaveworkshopsforsmallerclassgroups.Theprovisionisnormallythesameacrossworkshopgroups,butmostgroupsdifferentiatebetweenexperiencedteachersandnewteachers.Thegroupsbroadlycontainthesamebalanceofstudentsfromavarietyofbackgroundsandinterests;thecourseleaderputsthestudentlistsfor
